Begin custard batter by whisking together the following ingredients in a large mixing bowl:

8 Eggs
1 C. Milk
1 C. Cream
1 1/2 C. Sugar
1/2 Vanilla Bean

Mix together the following ingredients and whisk into the custard batter:

1/2 tsp salt
1/2 C. All purpose Flour

Let the batter rest for 30 minutes (to relax the gluten in the flour).

Butter a baking dish, sprinkle some sugar over the bottom of the dish.

Fill the bottom of the dish with fruit of your choice (apples, pears, berries, stone fruit all work well).

Pour custard over the fruit.

Bake @ 425 degrees for 10 – 15 minutes;
turn oven down to 375 and continue to bake for another 15-20 minutes, until the center is just set.

Cover with powdered sugar and serve immediately.
