2003 Domaine Pinot Gris

KING ESTATE Domaine 2003 OREGON
A deeper and far more interesting wine than this varietal usually begets, King's "Domaine" bottling is optimally ripe, loaded with citrus-tinged, peach-like fruit and sports an exceptionally fine sense of balance and palatal length. It gets our vote as the best of its bunch and is the rare Pinot Gris that warrants a serious search in the market.

Domaine Pinot Gris ($24)
The notion that a $20-plus American Pinot Gris may not be worth the price is, well, narrow-minded at best. This wine is many, many times better than almost any Pinot Gris / Grigio you have ever tasted.

Fragrant and fine in style; a Pinot Gris which is full bodied, crisp, and intensely flavored (pear, lemon, baked bread), with a long, harmonious finish. Unwooded. Certified organic. [2005-2006]

King Estate 2003 Domaine Pinot Gris
Score: 91
King Estate's high-end Domaine wines, organically grown and certified, are off to a great start with this exceptional Pinot Gris. Stone fruits and citrus peel flavors dominate layered and textural. The fruit is fleshy but not fat, with pear, papaya and mixed tropical highlights, and a crisp, clean finish.

"King's Domaine Pinot Gris is gently perfumed, with pale gold color, offering a soft silkiness, with fig notes, lemon and nectarine. Texture is an added attribute – a lot of substance here and in the finish. In a word, "charming" – it’s the hallmark of all great Gris."

KRAMER ON WINE
…But this pinot gris, a brand-new wine from King Estate south of Eugene , is something different. Simply put, it’s a benchmark. This is one of the finest pinot gris wines I’ve tasted from Oregon . And it sees no oak, by the way…

King Estate Domaine Pinot Gris – It’s silky in the mouth, remarkably complex, long and lingering on the finish and 100 percent organic. Yowza! My hat’s off to the folks at King Estate who’ve been producing solid pinot gris for years. The Domaine, however, is a huge step up in class. Rating: 93
