Flavors of grain predominate in this fleshy, unctuous Chardonnay. Balance is rich texture with a thick salmon steak. King Estate Winery, Eugene, OR

King Estate 1997 Chardonnay Reserve, Oregon
One of Oregon's biggest wineries really knows what "reserve" means. This chardonnay is a rich, complex wine with spicy oak aromas followed by nice toasty flavors with a rich, long finish. Terrific balance and flavors, this an all-around serious, appealing wine. $20.

Chardonnay, Reserve, Oregon 1997
Deep straw hue. Spicy, generous green apple aromas. A lean entry leads to a taut, medium-bodied palate with a firm structural edge. Clean finish. Spicy oak is present but very well integrated. Drink now.

1997 Chardonnay, Reserve, OR $20
Pale green straw color. Delicate and complex aromas of pear fruit, vanilla, anise, and toast. Clean and focused flavors of ripe apple, light toast, and faint graham. Well-balanced, with a long, juicy finish; very elegant. Match with scallops and a corn/chantrelle salsa. (918 cases produced).

King Estate 1997 Reserve Chardonnay, $20
Though if your put together the best lots from even a minor vintage, you can release a fine reserve, like this. Far more fleshed out than its above sister, with all the colors painted in. The perfect restaurant wine, with nice body, acidity, flavor, and grandma will like the oak.
