1999 Pinot Noir Reserve

From: Connoisseurs' Guide, May 2003

Score: 88

KING ESTATE 1999 Reserve Pinot Noir, Oregon
Fairly ripe, rich and supple in the manner of the grape, this one smells of ripe cherries and smoky oak and follows through well on the palate with a burgeoning richness set off by a bit of the firmness in the finish that so typifies Oregon Pinot's. Tailored and likeable, it can grow a bit yet.

This wine shows great promise in the nose - green herb and strawberries, along with a demonstrative toffee-scented oak, which in turn dominates the palate, and brings out the cooked quality of the fruit. A year laying down may bring the fruit into better focus against the wood.

KING ESTATE
1999 Reserve Pinot Noir, OR

Toasty aroma with notes of black cherry, mint, and stone fruit. Restrained, with black cherry fruit emerging in the long, rich finish. Cellar 2-3 years for additional complexity.

King Estate Pinot Noir Oregon Reserve 1999 $35
Ripe, round and generous, with layers of chewy currant, cherry and leather flavors cascading nicely through the fine-grained finish.
