1998 Zinfandel

Zinfandel

Winemaker's Notes

This brilliant, deep plum colored wine displays aromas of raspberry, blackberry, and plum with hints of pepper, vanilla, and oak. Complex flavors of raspberry, currants, and pepper that are nicely accented by notes of vanilla and oak spice.

With well integrated oak and a solid acid structure, the wine’s smooth tannins follow through its long, intense finish. Suggested retail: $35.00

Growing Season
The extended cold wet spring in 1998 reduced the number of pollinated flowers significantly, and thus, yields were down 30-50% statewide.

A warm, dry summer growing season led to a normal canopy growth. With a reduction in clusters coupled with a normal canopy growth, the remaining fruit possessed intense aromas and flavors.

The weather during harvest was sunny and dry with small amounts of intermittent rainfall.

Vineyard Notes
The fruit for this Oregon Zinfandel comes from The Pines vineyard, located near The Dalles in the Columbia River Appellation. The Pines is an eighty year old vineyard planted on a steep, terraced hillside.

The short, yet intense growing season coupled with the demanding vineyard site, produces very ripe and concentrated fruit.
