1999 Pfeiffer Pinot Noir

From: Wine & Spirits, February 2003
Score: 90
King Estate
1999 Pfeiffer Vineyards Vineyard Designate
King Estate has purchased fruit from Pfeiffer for several years,
this '99 being the first release as a vineyard designate.
Pfeiffer is in the southern Willamette, planted on Pommard
rootstock and Bellpine soils, with low yields in 1999 due
to an uneven set. The concentration is there in the glass,
with firm acids and a grainy tannic length that made me think
of Chambolle-Musigny. There are aromas of red cherry and caraway,
followed by simple cherry and strawberry pith flavors. Then
it ends with a pretty, lifted quality that's faintly grounded
by wood.

King Estate Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Pfeiffer
Vineyards 1999 $40
Rich, ripe and generous, this has a plush mouthful of blackberry,
strawberry and cinnamon flavors, which swirls through the
round finish and picks up hints of pepper and toast.

King Estate 1999 Pinot Noir, Pfeiffer Vineyards Willamette
Valley, OR $45
Red garnet color. Cherry fruit, violets, and mint in the nose.
Elegant, with medium-bodied flavors of cherry and graham,
with light citrusy notes. Pair with braised rabbit and pasta.
