Tasting Notes

The 2013 vintage was spectacular in the Walla Walla Valley. This lives up to its promise with a dark violet color and a nose of ripe blackberry, nutmeg, eucalyptus and cashew. There are rich flavors of black currant, cinnamon, plum and violets that are structured by toasty toffee, tobacco leaf and cedar. The mid-palate is filled with robust structure and layers upon layers of complexity. The fruit elements and earthen notes are in perfect balance with silky tannins that provide a beautiful lingering finish. Drink now and until 2033.

Vineyard Notes

North by Northwest was founded in 2005 by the King family with the vision to handcraft varietally pure wines from the finest vineyards in Walla Walla Valley and Columbia Valley AVAs, which straddle the border of Washington and Oregon. We partner with like-minded vineyard owners, with an eye on sustainable viticultural practices. Our guiding principle is simple: produce a quality wine, for wine lovers. Vineyards include: Seven Hills Vineyard, Heather Hill Vineyard, Les Collines Vineyard, and Los Oidos Vineyard.

Winemaker Notes

2013 Walla Walla Cabernet Sauvignon was cold soaked for extraction, then punched down, and pumped over. For optimum flavor and body, the grapes underwent delestage, and saw an extended maceration. This wine saw 21 months in 31% new French oak barrels.
