Tasting Notes

The wine is a deep garnet color in the glass. On the nose find delightful notes of strawberry, maraschino cherries, earth and clove. The entry is soft and rich. Flavors of raspberry jam, cherry, black tea and leather chime in on the palate. This wine is well balanced with supple tannins and a generous finish.

Vineyard Notes

Feeling lucky? Blackjack Pinot Noir is made exclusively from clone 777. This classic clone is known for its pretty aromatics, dark colored grape skins and fruit-forward flavors. Our 777 clones are planted on King Estate's steep hillside facing southeast between 994 feet to 1,100 feet. Blackjack Pinot Noir has a generous mouthfeel, just-ripe strawberry character and lasting complexity.

Winemaker Notes

Whole clusters are destemmed, then subjected to a 48-hour cold soak with daily pump overs. For further concentration of flavor and color, 10% of juice is bled off the red wine during fermentation using the Saignée method. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel open top tanks with daily punch downs. The wine underwent full malolactic fermentation in barrel after completion of primary fermentation. Aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, 30% new.
